We’re looking for a talented and passionate full time back-end web developer to manage and implement server and database architecture for MeterGenius. If you’re interested in taking on a leadership role within a growing startup and excel in working with the LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack, this is the perfect role for you!
As the lead back end developer, you would primarily be in charge of maintaining the performance and functional integrity of the MeterGenius servers. You will be developing and implementing code (including shell scripts, PHP controller, SQL) to manage the database and optimize server performance, as well as communicate with other server platforms, control smart devices, and connect with APIs. You will also help integrate new product features into the MeterGenius application by designing back end logic and constructing efficient database schema to properly handle information and security requirements. You will be working closely with our product manager to shape the back end architecture to handle new application features and growth in the number of end users and electricity providers, in a seamless and efficient manner. As we will be collecting large data sets of user electricity consumption on a granular level, experience working in big data management will also be highly beneficial.
MeterGenius is a free website that provides tools and incentives for homeowners to save money on their electricity bill. MeterGenius gives homeowners with smart meters the ability to examine their electricity consumption at a granular level, set goals and track their progress, compete against neighbors, control their smart devices, and earn points that can be redeemed for energy efficient appliances! We are currently running a pilot with one of the largest electric utilities in the US, and are preparing for two more pilots with other electricity companies within the next quarter.
MeterGenius was founded in 2014 by graduate students at Northwestern. We have been recognized across the US in various business plan competitions and we’ve won more than 200k in seed funding from these competitions. In Spring 2015, we also completed the Capital Innovators accelerator program.
